San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs which is based in San Antonio, Texas is one of the four teams who formerly belonged to the American Basketball Association that remained intact with the NBA even after the merging in 1976. San Antonio Spurs is also the only the only former ABA team that has won the NBA Championship. They have claimed the title four times during the playoffs in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007. The Spurs hold the title for the most number of Division Titles as well. For their 32 years in the NBA, the team has earned 15 division titles. The Lakers follow them with 14 division titles.

Before becoming the San Antonio Spurs, the team was known as Dallas Chaparrals. That was from 1967 to 1973. When they missed the playoff for the 1972-1973 season, their team was sold to a group of 36 San Antonio businessmen so the team was relocated to Texas. The team’s name was changed from Chaparrals to Gunslingers then, to Spurs.

Their colors used to be red, white and blue but as they started to be the Spurs, they became known for their white, silver and black jerseys.

Presently, the Spurs team is noted for their “Big Three”. These are Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.
